Amazing behind the back football catch

Gadget Pron

Call me crazy but I like this.  If the mic was built in and is not to your liking your stuck with it.  This way you can buy the one you like and customize the device the way you want it giving you the choice.  Sound familiar ummm like Android.  Just saying.

Tab comming this Fall

Official: Samsung Galaxy Tab headed to AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon

That's right! Once again, Samsung's gotten all four of the major US carriers in its court -- and just as we'd heard, the 7-inch Galaxy Tab will be heading to Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile sometime during the October / November timeframe. We wish we had more to share on the availability part, but Samsung's leaving that and the pricing announcements to the carriers. (We do know that the keyboard dock will cost $100 and the desktop dock $50.) We got to check out the US version of the Galaxy Tab earlier today, and its raw specs -- 1GHz Hummingbird, Android 2.2, 7-inch, 1204 x 600 WSVGA resolution display, front and rear cams -- were exactly the same as the one we previewed last week at IFA. However, Samsung tells us that TouchWiz will be tweaked slightly for the stateside crowd -- it won't have the Reader or Music hubs, but will have the social networking apps and a new Media Hub. There will also be preloaded carrier apps -- for instance, AT&T's version will come with its Connection Manager. Obviously, we can only hope that Verizon's wised up and isn't planning to totally Bing-out its Tab. No word on an unlocked or WiFi version hitting the US, but apparently it's being talked about internally. We'll be bringing you some more hands-on shots soon and trying to dig up more on pricing, but hit the break for the full press release.

Updated: Samsung just confirmed that a WiFi-only version will come at some point...

Leftlane first broke the news that Daimler was planning two new electric vehicles earlier this week, and on Friday Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche confirmed the electric car program. As we reported, one vehicle will be an electric version of the company’s Smart car while the other will be badged and sold as a Mercedes-Benz.
Moreover, both cars will make it to market quicker than originally thought. According to Zetsche, both models will hit the market in 2010. "We plan an electric Smart for 2010 and for the same year a Mercedes (electric) model as well," Zetsche told Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitun.
Zetsche didn’t reveal if the all-electric Mercedes model would be based on a current car or an all-new platform, but it’s likely that Mercedes will electrify either its A-Class or B-Class.
Dr. Z also kept mum about possible pricing, citing the car’s batteries will be the final determinate. According to Automotive News, the Mercedes electric car will use lithium-ion batteries.
As previously noted, Daimler already has a fleet of 100 electric Smart cars testing in London.

Android Tablet from Where?

Sure, popular belief equates Colombian exports with guns and cocaine, but two Bogota-based companies presently have 10-inch tablet computers on the brain. Compumax has got an Android-powered Tegra 2 device on tap with a dual-core 1GHz Cortex A9, 512MB of RAM and a 32GB hard drive, and Smart PC's looking at a netbook-specced Windows 7 slate with an Atom N450 processor, a DVD burner, up to 2GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive, a folding stand and a pair of peripheral-friendly USB ports alongside what looks like a fairly responsive multitouch screen. Intriguingly enough, the companies claim the devices aren't rebrands and are actually built in Colombia from foreign parts -- the "Hyper" Android slate is reportedly already on sale for COP 700,000 (about $387), and you can expect the "Smart Touch" Windows machine to debut for COP 1,099,000 (about $608) when it debuts in Peru next month. See the latter machine in action right after the break.

Old Vs. New: iMac Battle!

Tesla/Rav4

I must have missed it.  Tesla and Toyota have signed a formal agreement to cooperate on a Electric Rav4.  Tesla needs to learn about Toyota's distribution and manufacturing.  Toyota needs to learn about Tesla's battery technology.  It is a little known fact that Toyota had a Electric Rav4 in the late 90's.   (See who killed the electric car.)  The prototype has been built and is being tested by Toyota.   The vehicle should be available in 2012.

Google Music

Google Music coming by Christmas

Dustin Earley

Ever since Google IO, whispers of Google Music and when the service will go active have been getting louder as time goes on. Reuters now has word that Google Music will (hopefully) be up and running by Christmas. The only problem hindering the process is Google’s lack of deals with record labels. Fret not though music lovers, record execs that are willing to pipe up (as anonymously as it may be) have good things to say:

“Finally here’s an entity with the reach, resources and wherewithal to take on iTunes as a formidable competitor by tying it into search and Android mobile platform. What you’ll have is a very powerful player in the market that’s good for the music business.”

As nice as those words sound, if Google wants to compete in the digital music

marketplace they need get their act together fast. As of right now, Apple’s iTunes Music Store accounts for 70% of all US digital music sales. After 3 years of Amazon’s digital music sales, they’re market share resides at around 12%. Obviously, Google will have some catching up to do. Thanks to Android’s over 200,000 handset activations a day, that shouldn’t be hard.

Merger Rumors

Here We Go Again, Sprint And T-Mobile Rumors Persist

Hey guess what? Another T-Mobile and Sprint merger/acquisition/partnership/holding hands while skipping in the park rumor. This time the Wall Street Journal has stated that Sprint, or more specifically their board of directors is debating whether or not to let rival T-Mobile USA invest in Clearwire. For the record this isn’t the first time Clearwire has popped up in the T-Mobile world as outgoing CEO Robert Dotson has publicly stated that discussions with Clearwire have taken place.
Clearwire, needing funding to continue its expansion from a current base of 49 cities to a nationwide outlay would require significant investment to move forward. The Wall Street Journal states that Sprint’s board is relatively Sprint with some directors supporting the idea of allowing T-Mobile to invest in operations and others “adamantly opposing the idea.” T-Mobile has yet to lay out a 4G strategy and given todays announcement of a doubling in HSPA+ speeds throughout 2011 one has to wonder just what kind of an investment T-Mobile would be willing to make given their own resources being pumped into HSPA+ services. Given the current wireless landscape however, a partnership between Sprint and T-Mobile makes sense on a number of levels in order to combat the increasing subscriber difference AT&T and Verizon are establishing. T-Mobile also has its own set of options aside from Sprint and Clearwire with Harbinger Capital Partners. The Harbinger group is looking to build their own 4G network from scratch and partnering with T-Mobile could accelerate their plans while providing T-Mobile with significant access to wireless broadband.
For starters, this is all of course, subject to rumor and merely comes from “sources familiar with the matter” but these things tend to be true on at least some level. A partnership with Sprint as stated, does make sense on a number of levels. However, to what end does that partnership grow and just how much can T-Mobile and Sprint get together on Clearwire while remaining direct competitors?
